Offering a satisfying 27 grams of protein, Stouffer’s Cilantro Lime Chicken caught my eye because it is a ‘healthy’ frozen entrée that incorporates two of my favorite ingredients – chicken and cilantro. Described as ‘white meat chicken with a black bean and corn mix, seasoned brown rice and a verde tomatillo sauce,’ I was excited to try this as my first FitKitchen meal.
In its frozen state, I could already tell that this meal is going to taste good…I just knew it.
To prepare, you will peel a corner of the film to vent. Cook on high in the microwave for 5 minutes. Next, take out the meal, pull back the film to stir the contents, and then re-cover. Microwave on high for 2 ½ minutes, and then let stand for 1 minute before digging in.
How Does Stouffer’s FitKitchen Cilantro Lime Chicken Taste?
For starters, the verde tomatillo sauce really hits the bulls-eye…it tastes like something out of a restaurant. There is also enough to go around for the rice and meat, which is white meat chicken (my favorite). I also appreciate that the chicken has ‘bite’ to it, and does not taste soggy. You also get a generous portion of chicken, in comparison to other similar meals. I also love the burst of lime that I detect in between bites – it is refreshing. The black bean and corn mix is average at best because it was once frozen…you can tell. The texture is bit distracting.
Yet in still, this is one of the best frozen entrees that I have tasted…yes, I said it. The meal is well-seasoned, offers variety, and is filling. Also, you can a hefty amount of fiber, protein and vitamin C, as you will see below.
By the Numbers
The entire meal equals 380 calories; 50 fat calories. You also receive 7 grams of fiber (28% recommended daily value – RDV); 27 grams of protein (29% RDV); and Vitamin C (70% RDV). One thing that I wish there was less of is the sodium (9440mg – 39% RDV).
Will I purchase again? Most definitely!
