I Just Learned…Remedies for Burning Gums

As a writer, I research an endless number of health topics so I have a good excuse for my hypochondriac ways. After experiencing a burning sensation in my gums for weeks – I swore I was plagued with receding gums, gingivitis, dry mouth, and periodontal disease.

Before paying a visit to the dentist, I decided to self-treat my symptoms with a variety of over-the-counter remedies, including:

  • Aquafresh Extreme Clean toothpaste
  • The Natural Dentist Healthy Gums rinse
  • Biotene PBF Dry Mouth toothpaste and mouthwash
  • Quantum Herbal Products: Organic & Wildcrafted Gum Cream

When all else failed, I reluctantly made a dentist appointment. After examining my gums and passing with flying colors, the dentist told me my issue was systemic. Basically, I wasn’t getting enough of a certain vitamin. This possibility never crossed my mind, but she told me to:

  • Take more than 1000 mg of vitamin C daily.
  • Consume probiotic yogurt or drink/eat kefir (a healthier form of yogurt with stronger ‘good’ bacteria).
  • Drink aloe vera juice, but I opted for taking aloe vera capsules. I’m sure the juice is much better.
  • Switch to a natural toothpaste without harsh chemicals (I chose Tom’s of Maine).

Not only do the above suggestions treat burning gums, but they also help boost your immune system. The very next day (yes, the very next day), my gums were back to normal and the burning sensation has yet to return. This experience has seriously renewed my faith in taking vitamins and supplements.
