Referred to as the ‘action packed snack,’ Perky Jerky is a bit different than other options on the market as it is flavored with a hint of Guarana – a berry-related caffeine supplement that (when consumed in moderation) has a reputation for temporarily increasing concentration, boosting mental and physical performance, slightly lifting the mood, and possibly suppressing the appetite in some people. I Tweeted my disappointment that I was unable to receive a sample at my local Walmart the day their nifty tour bus stopped by, and the good folks at Perky Jerky sent me a couple freebies to try out – thanks a bunch!
Not only does the beef jerky supply the body with 11 grams of protein (21% of your recommended daily value), but it is also low fat, low carb, and low calorie (only 90 calories per every 1-ounce serving). It’s also free of nitrates, preservatives or added MSG.
I like the ingredients list on the Beef Perky Jerky – straight-forward, recognizable ingredients (some of which are all-natural and organic, such as organic Worcestershire sauce, organic evaporated cane syrup, and organic spices). One of the first things I noticed about the beef jerky was the texture – it was tender and tasty. My Mom’s instant reaction when she tried a piece was ‘oh…this is good.’ Yup, I have to agree. The second thing I noticed was the packaging – love the bull and turkey imagery.
I’m a huge fan of beef jerky, and I’ve had deer jerky before (salty yet tasty), but I’ve never had the desire to try turkey jerky, so when Perky Jerky sent me a sample, I couldn’t resist.
The Turkey Perky Jerky is well seasoned and tastes fine, but I like the beef jerky much better…a personal preference, I just really can’t get past the ‘turkey’ part of the jerky. I’d also like to add that the turkey jerky offers 9 grams of protein, and is lower in calories than the beef, which is always a plus – only 50 calories per serving.
Once again, thank you Perky Jerky for the samples – your product is a winner.
Disclosure: I received free samples of Perky Jerky in the mail with no request to review the product, but I chose to spread the word on my own anyway because I really like the jerky.
