Quick, convenient and easy to make, Campbell’s Go Soups is one of the freshest, microwavable meals that I’ve ever seen – perfect for those who take lunches in the office, or for on-the-go people that simply don’t have the time or patience to do the whole canned soup deal. All you have to do is vent, pop in, cook, remove, and pour – how much easier does it get than that? And, the best part is…the food tastes really good.
We recently had a little tasting party to sample five out of six of the Campbell’s Go Soups, but before I get to my thoughts, let me share a few details about the soups.
Love The Packaging
The packaging design for Campbell’s Go Soups is highly engaging and creative with well-placed splashes of color, and graphics, such as faces on the front and mini-images of ingredients in the soups on the back. Each 14-ounce pouch of soup contains about 2 servings.
How to Make Campbell’s Go Soups
To make the soup in the microwave, tear a small piece of package open to vent before heating. Position the pouch standing upright in the microwave, and then cook on high for 2 to 2 ½ minutes. There are little fingerprints on the packaging to show you where to place your fingers so you do not burn yourself – this is called a Cool Touch area. Take the pouch out of the microwave, and pour the soup into a bowl. Stir before serving.
The microwave cooking time was more than sufficient to thoroughly heat the food.
You can also cook the soup on your stove top by opening the pouch, and then pouring soup into a medium saucepan – heating and stirring occasionally until hot. I’d like to say that the soup does stay heated for quite some time after cooking – I’m impressed. Also, keep in mind that the pouch is not reheatable, and you should store leftovers in a separate container in the refrigerator.
What I Like about Campbell’s Go Soups
- The majority of flavors are high in fiber, and I love, love, love fiber!
- Some have a nice amount of protein.
- No mess preparation, and the soups stay hot for a long time after cooking
- The flavors are delicious, and the ingredients are top-notch.
My only gripe about some of the Campbell’s Go Soup flavors is the percentage of saturated fat in the creamier selections. It’s because they use real cream, so if you want to be a little greedy, and eat an entire pouch, then I suggest you exercise to lessen a bit of the damage.
There are 6 different Campbell’s Go Soup flavors and I have tried five out of six.
Here are my top three favorites:
• Moroccan Style Chicken with Chickpeas – A spicy dream with flavorful bits of tomato, diced carrots, chicken, and chickpeas. Love the flavor and consistency of this soup. One serving is 160 calories with no saturated fat. You get 13 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber, which is 24% of your recommended daily value (RDV). The soup also has a nice amount of Vitamin A and Vitamin C.
• Golden Lentil with Madras Curry – Made with golden lentils, a few slighty-sizeable pieces of tomatoes, spinach, and coconut milk, this soup has a more liquid consistency than some of the other selections. You can see the ample amount of spinach throughout the bowl. It tastes spicy (not really ‘hot’ spicy) with a nod towards Indian cuisine. You get 4 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber, which is 20% of your recommended daily value (RDV), and a nice amount of Vitamin C. One serving is 160 calories.
• Creamy Red Pepper with Smoked Gouda – The soup is worth the extra calories (220 per serving), as the creaminess is extremely satisfying. While offering a nice dose of vitamin C, vitamin A, and calcium, it’s a bit lower in protein and fiber than the other selections. The downside (for me) of this selection is the 15 grams total fat (23% RDV) and 9 grams of fat (45% RDV – yikes) – that orangey glow in the photo is oily indulgence. Yet, the red pepper/smoked cheese and tomato combination is really nice – even though the ingredients are not as plentiful as the packaging suggests. Taste-wise – it’s still my favorite of them all.
Other flavors offered are:
• Coconut Curry with Chicken and Shitake Mushrooms
• Chicken & Quinoa with Poblano Chilies
• Spicy Chorizo and Pulled Chicken with Black Beans
