Making Pizza with Ragu Light Parmesan Alfredo Sauce

Inspired by a Domino’s Pizza I had once, I set out to create an easy, low-calorie substitute for a white pizza that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Depending on your tastes, you can mix and match different ingredients in your fridge, but every time I make this, it’s with Ragu Light Parmesan Alfredo sauce (gotta love the lower calories with the same creamy taste). If you don’t like Feta cheese, substitutes include ½ to 1 cup of light shredded cheese, or you can shake on a bit of grated Parmesan.

Ingredients

  • fetatomatopizzaingredientsOne frozen pizza dough (thawed out)
  • ½ cup (or more) of Ragu Light Creamy Parmesan sauce
  • Crumbly Feta Cheese
  • Tomato (usually a nice-sized medium one)
  • Minced Garlic
  • Black Pepper and Dried Oregano, to taste

How to Make

1. First, allow your frozen dough to thaw out, and rise at room temperature (and I mean really puff out) because if you rush this step – your pizza will turn out flat and tough. I put mine in a plastic bowl and cover with plastic wrap. When something is in the oven, I set the bowl on top of the stove, and use the warmth to speed up the process.

Cooking Tip: The dough will be very sticky so I suggest putting a small amount of flour on a plate to dust your fingertips and the dough as you work with it. This will keep your fingers from sticking to the dough. With floured fingertips, pry the dough from the inside lining of the plastic bag. Dust some of the dough with flour to make it easier to maneuver.

2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

3. Lightly grease the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking sheet. Plop the dough in the middle of the pan and start spreading to all edges of the baking sheet. Keep working it in all directions to evenly distribute. In time, the dough will stick all around the edges.

4. Evenly spread an ample amount of minced garlic on the dough. I use a lot because I love garlic (and it also adds texture to the pizza). Use a spoon to spread ½ cup of the Ragu Light Parmesan Alfredo sauce to cover the garlic. Some of the liquid from the minced garlic will blend nicely with the sauce.

5. Sprinkle on black pepper and oregano, to taste.

6. Use the back end of a fork to mince the Feta cheese into smaller pieces – and then sprinkle across the pizza.

7. Thinly slice one large or two smaller tomatoes, and arrange the slices on the pizza.

8. Put the pizza in the oven, and cook for 20 minutes at 400 degree F, or a bit longer if you like a crispier crust. Once out of the oven, cut the pizza into 8 even pieces.

Calorie Count

If you use the above ingredients (or similar options) and divide the pizza into eight portions, one slice will equal approximately 145 calories. Yum!

Variation: The last time I was at Walmart, the tomatoes looked ‘unhealthy’, so I used ½ can (or 4 ounces) of Homestyle Mexican Salsa (medium) instead. I chose the La Costena brand from Walmart – it cost about 72 cents. Straight out of the oven, it had my lips burning hot with the cool aftertaste of feta cheese and the Ragu Alfredo sauce.

Disclosure: As a member of Crowdtap, I received a coupon for a free Ragu sauce so that I could write a review about my experiences. My opinions are 100% my own.
