Kellogg’s has released a couple of Special K Coffeehouse Protein Breakfast Shakes for kickstarting a healthy, productive morning; and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. For a healthy drink, Kellogg’s really knows how to blend just the right amount of flavor, calories, with vitamins and minerals.
The Flavors
There are two flavors to currently consider:
- Coffeehouse Vanilla Cappuccino (180 Calories): A lightly sweetened vanilla treat. The flavor is creamy-smooth and tastes like something I’d drink on a regular basis.
- Coffeehouse Chocolate Mocha (190 Calories): Deep, rich dark chocolate taste. The flavor is deeper and bolder than its Vanilla Cappuccino cousin, and is perfect for chocolate lovers.
One serving is a 10-ounce bottle of Special K Protein Breakfast Shake, which is more than satisfying and filling. Don’t forget to shake well before drinking, and of course, you probably want to drink this chilled to enjoy the best experience.
The Consistency
I think the consistency of these protein drinks is just right.
The drinks are not watered down, yet aren’t incredibly thick either.
You have substance without a ‘gag-me’ reflex.
The Health Factor
Not only do you get 10 grams of protein (20% recommended daily value – RDV), but you also get 5 grams of fiber (21% RDV)…and I looooove that. I’m a huge fan of fiber, and I love that Kellogg’s Special K Protein Breakfast Shakes provide a healthy dose of both protein and fiber.
And that’s not all…you get Vitamin C (100% RDV), Vitamin E (100% RDV), Calcium (35% RDV), Folic Acid (30% RDV), Vitamin A (35% RDV), Vitamin D (35% RDV), and Vitamin B12 (35% RDV) – just to name a few…
Bottom line, this is one healthy drink…
…and taste is not compromised in order to produce it.
I also took a look at a similar ‘protein-fiber’ drink to compare the health factor, and while it had slightly more protein and 30 fewer calories, it could not compete with Kellogg’s Special K in the vitamins/mineral department. The competitor also had more than triple the amount of saturated fat.
I’m also glad that the drinks are under 200 calories, as I often encounter many ‘healthy’ drinks (especially protein drinks) in the 220-260 range, and just seeing those numbers makes me disinterested in a product like this.
Disclosure: As part of being a BzzAgent, I was sent free samples of the Special K Coffeehouse Drinks so that I could facilitate a review if I chose to, and I did…everything stated in this post is 100% my own opinion.
